Minutes of the East River Amateur Radio Club February 2,2004 Ryan’s Steakhouse, Bluefield, VA. http://www.erarc.com The February meeting of the ERARC was opened at 703pm by Gary Kadar N8GK, ERARC Vice President. There were 7 members and guests in attendance. Gary welcomed all. Hooger Fisher W4OF, ERARC Sec., read the minutes of the January meeting. No treasurer’s report due to the treasurer being absent. Gary mentioned something that he would like to bring up at the next meeting. He would like to see the club procure a box of some type in which the club’s FT100, power supply and cables be stored in and also have a portable HF antenna such as a G5RV, ropes, etc. His idea was that we could have one box to ‘grab and go’ if the equipment was needed in a hurry. Jerry Connelly KC8TES suggested that we also have some sort of VHF/UHF portable antenna also, such as a roll-up J-pole. REMINDER of the ERARC VE Team sponsoring an ARRL testing session on Saturday, February 14, 2004 at the Mercer County 911 center, Green Valley, 9am. Reminder of hamfests: Elkin, NC Feb. 22, Fayetteville, WV, Feb. 29. Charlotte, NC in March. Arlie Hicks N8AH suggested that the VE team spend some of the funds in its possession on such things as books for the libraries or just on something that may be needed. Matthew French KC8URG thought that we had already discussed purchasing three “Now You’re Talking” Technician books for the libraries. Hooger looked back into the past club minutes and in March of 2003, Gary Kadar had made a motion that the club purchase the new books. At that time, it was noted that the new question pool for Technician was coming out in June and we decided to put the purchase on hold until after June. Bob Frazier WB8NRK was going to look into pricing, etc. Discussion. Gary made a motion, seconded by Arlie Hicks to allow Jerry Connelly to pick up three of the books while he is in Richmond on the 22nd. Vote taken, motion passed. Jerry will try to purchase the books under the ERARC name in order to get them as cheap as possible. There was no further business and the meeting was over at 0720. Don Harris KA4YDN attended the meeting and was welcomed. Gary invited him to the weekly Saturday breakfast meetings in Green Valley at the Country Kitchen. Respectfully submitted, George “Hooger” Fisher 111, W4OF, Sec.
