February 6, 2006 Ryan’s Steakhouse Bluefield, VA. http://www.erarc.com The February meeting of the ERARC was opened at 655pm by George Dietrich KF4YGL, ERARC President. There were 23 members and guests in attendance. Bob Frazier WB8NRK, ERARC treasurer, gave his report. He mentioned sending flowers to (KG4CTK) Kathleen Underwood’s mother’s funeral in Florida, paying a phone bill and paying the $438.73 repair bill for 442.45 repeater. Hooger Fisher W4OF, ERARC Secretary, read the minutes for the January meeting. Gary Kadar N8GK ERARC VEC said that there would be ****** an ARRL VE testing session this Saturday, February 11, 2006 at 9am at the Mercer County 911 Center in Green Valley, between Bluefield and Princeton just off of US Rt. 460.*********** Gary said that Roger Stefancic KC8LGR had recently acquired his General VE status and Roger will try to be there also. Gary mentioned that he had installed an ICOM 706 II MK into his vehicle and was getting ‘a bunch’ of noise. John Riddle N8RIG suggested grounding the radio itself and the noise was taken care of. Jay Belt K8CTI said that after 4 trips to East River Mountain that he determined that the interference on the 444.45 repeater was from ‘a radio station’ on the mountain and that when the station switched to the Princeton transmitter, the interference stopped at the Bluefield transmitter site. Jerry Connelly KC8TES, Mercer County EC, said that the West Virginia State Emergency Net changed to THE FIRST THURSDAY of each month. It was on the second and fourth Thursday of each month. Willie Carr W4XE, (ex. K8MIH, WA4RDV) from Roanoke, Virginia, was introduced to the membership. Willie just wanted to come to Bluefield to visit Lee Brooks W8BHG and come to an ERARC meeting. He was an engineer for WKOY and WHIS back in the 60s. He also brought a copy of the Bluefield Daily Telegraph’s coverage of the 1961 ERARC Field Day event. George asked the following guests to introduce themselves: Drema Ritchey KD4NQF, Doug Ritchey WG8D, Deborah Hubbard KB8VOJ, Cary Hubbard KB8VOK as well as their children, Matt and Josh. George had all others introduce themselves to these four amateur guests, giving name and call sign. George Dietrich won the 50/50 drawing and donated his winnings back into the flower fund.
