Minutes of the East River Amateur Radio Club January 5, 2004 Ryan’s Steakhouse, Bluefield, Va. http://www.erarc.com The January meeting of the ERARC was opened at 700pm by George Dietrich, KF4YGL ERARC President. There were 22 members and guests in attendance. George welcomed all and asked that Hooger Fisher W4OF, ERARC Sec., read the minutes of the November and December meetings. Minutes read with these follow-ups: 1) Extension cords for Field Day, etc. have been procured. 2) The club’s generator has not been serviced yet. Gary Kadar N8GK is still waiting to hear something from Russel Taylor KC8GBE. 3) The number for Bland County 911 has not been received yet and therefore no auto-dial number in the repeaters yet. Bob Frazier, WB8NRK, treasurer, gave his report. ARES net controls for January: 3rd George Dietrich, 10th Jerry Connelly KC8TES, 17TH Hooger Fisher, 24th Tom Gordon WW8D. George asked for further business and there was none. Bob Hoge N8RIR won the 50/50 drawing for the flower fund and donated his winnings to the fund. Gary Kadar N8GK then gave a demonstration on PSK31 digital communication with a brief explanation on the theory and actual decoding of signals on 40 and 20 meters via the club’s Yaesu FT100. The information was enjoyed by all in attendance. Gary said that one could find a wealth of information on the internet on PSK31 at http://www.psk31.com. Receiving and decoding is fairly easy with free downloaded software and connecting the radio output to the computer’s sound card input and Gary encouraged all to try that out. There being no more business, the meeting was closed at 0742pm Respectfully submitted, George “Hooger” Fisher 111, W4OF, Sec.
