The July meeting of the East River ARC was opened at 0706pm by Gary Kadar N8GK, ERARC VP, in the absence of George Dietrich KF4YGL, President. There were 14 members and guests present, Gary welcomed all. This meeting was held at Ryan's Steakhouse in Bluefield, Va. Bob Frazier WB8NRK, Treasurer, was not in attendance due to an accident on Sunday. He accidentally cut off his left index finger with a radial table saw and had surgery on Monday. He has since been reported to be home, healing. Hooger Fisher W4OF, Sec. said that he'd talked to Bob on Monday morning and that the club DID get the liability insurance policy problems straightened out with the ARRL and that the club did receive a refund from Nationwide for around $188 from the original policy with them. Hooger read the minutes of the June meeting. Gary thanked all involved for the great hot dog dinner at Field Day, especially Betty Viers KG4CTL and Cathy Underwood KG4CTK. Gary went on to explain that the ERARC was running as a 3AVA station (three transmitters running during the contest located in Virginia). He estimated that we had made around 400 contacts and with bonus points, should be toward the bottom but not at the bottom of the points standings with the ARRL. Gary worked 15 meters, Dave Cox KG4MCC worked 20 meters and Bill Sowers K8WBS worked 75 meters. Additional operators were Tim Honaker KE4MFM and Hooger Fisher. Gary mentioned that the generator worked well since the recent maintenance to it and that "Stabil" was added to the gasoline reservoir when stored. Gary said that the next club function would be the September VHF/UHF contest. He said that he hoped that there would be participation from club members and that we'd have to decide on a location at a later date. He will go to Number 9 mountain in Gary, WV if the club decides to not participate. The contest is more of a 'line-of-sight/trophospheric ducting' propagation contest and the higher the elevation, the better. Gary: Reminder of the August 14, 2004 ERARC VE test session at the Mercer Co. 911 Center, 9am. Gary said that the new General License test question pool had been recently released and he would notify Bob Frazier so that Bob would have the new questions. Gary: Repeater report.... Jay Belt K8CTI said that John Riddle N8RIG, Don Anderson WD8OOR and himself had to replace the feed line to the 442.45 repeater on June 27 due to 'water in the feed line'. This section of feed line was the part from the hard-line to the antenna. Jay climbed the tower to the amazement of the ground crew. Gary said that the 145.49 repeater was off the air for some time recently and that he thought that when Don Anderson had changed the announcements on the machine that the 'processor' had locked up. Gary recognized visitors Doug and Debra Burnett. The 50/50 drawing for the flower fund was won by Margaret Willis, wife of Jim Willis KC8ZOT. ARES net control ops: 6th: Lonnie Underwood KI4EED, 13th Hooger Fisher W4OF, 20th Jerry Connelly KC8TES, 27th Ed Viers KD4WOO. Lonnie will be backup for Ed on the 27th. A get-well card was passed around for Bob Frazier. It will be mailed to Bob tomorrow. With no further business, Gary closed the July meeting at 0732pm. Respectfully submitted, Hooger Fisher W4OF, ERARC Sec.
