Minutes of the East River Amateur Radio Club June 23, 2001 meeting (THIS IS THE JULY 2001 MEETING) BSA Camp Roland, BASTIAN, VA. (www.inetone.net/erarc) The July meeting of the ERARC was opened at 0640pm by Gary Kadar, Vice President, in the absence of the President, George Dietrich, kf4ygl. There were 26 members and guests in attendance. This meeting was held after the ‘pot-luck’ dinner at 0600pm. The minutes of the June meeting were not read. Bob Frazier wb8nrk, mentioned that we had received checks from the Bluefield Area Foundation in the amount of $1000 and from the Bluefield Regional Medical Center Foundation in the amount of $2000. These funds are going to be used mostly to purchase the linked repeater system for 2M and 440, both to link into the 2M WV Hamtalk System. (BOB IS ALSO IN THE PROCESS OF COLLECTING DUES FOR THE 2001-2001 FISCAL YEAR. $10.00 PER MEMBER, $1.00 PER FAMILY MEMBER LIVING AT THE SAME ADDRESS. THANKS!!!!!) Don Anderson wd8oor was asked about the ’49 repeater and he said that things were underway for the replacement and that we were just waiting on the insurance check to arrive before final purchase could occur. 50-50: Not done. ARES net controls for July, not mentioned. <<<<<<>>>>>>>> UNOFFICIAL FIELD DAY REPORT VIA HOOGER FISHER W40F: Most of us met at Brushfork Burger King around 0830am. Jamie Hamilton N80LX graciously left word with management that we could have all of the ice that we needed, and we did get a bit. Several went to John Riddle’s home to pick up the generator that was at his house while the majority of those left went to Bob Frazier’s home to load the rest of the stuff. We sincerely do thank Denver Akers KC8QJX for the use of his trailer in hauling the tarps, tent poles, gasoline, dipoles, feedlines, coffee pots, coolers, etc. etc. etc. to Camp Roland. The entourage arrived at the Camp around 11am. The dipoles were hung, the beam antennas were mounted on the tower trailer (THANKS TO BEN MILLS N8XXA FOR THE USE OF THE TRAILER AND SURF CASTER FISHING POLE!!!), rigs setup and we were on the air (at least 15M by Gary Kadar and David Cox KG4MCC). The 7 element 6M beam that John had did not work, it only tuned up to around 48MHz. I forgot my power cord for the power supply, and Don Anderson brought me one around 4pm. Tom Gordon used the HF rig out of his truck and operated CW on 40 mad 75 Meters, for the most part. Two new operators for Field Day were David Cox KG4MCC and Shannon Akers KC8QNC. Tim Honaker KE4MFM came over just after supper and operated until 1230 am. Looking at the information that I’m sending in to the ARRL, we had 62CW QSO’s, 166 Phone QSO’s for a total of 290 QSO points. We multiply the CW contacts by 2, the Phone by 1, times the multiplier of 2 (for using less than 150 watts, for a total claimed score of 580. I have applied for bonus points, 100 each, for 1) 100% emergency power 2) Media Publicity 3) Setup in a Public Place 4) Sending a message to the WV Section Manager, Olie Rinehart WD8V, 5) Copying the W1AW special Field Day Message. OF SPECIAL NOTE: MIKE WALTERS W8ZY, LETHA WALTERS N8RIN, FROM TEXAS, BEA WALTERS (Mike’s Mom), FROM BLUEFIELD, RANDALL HASH WB4BBF AND DOUG HASH KD4ARY, FROM BLUEFIELD, VA. WERE IN ATTENDANCE SOMETIME DURING THE DAY ON SATURDAY. IT WAS GOOD TO SEE THEM. MIKE PUCKETT KE4MFO IS ALIVE, HE PROVED IT SHOWING UP FOR FIELD DAY. Respectfully submitted, George E. "Hooger" Fisher III, W4OF, Secretary
