Minutes of the East River Amateur Radio Club June 6, 2005 Ryan's Steakhouse Bluefield, VA. http://www.erarc.com *** THE JULY 2005 MEETING WILL BE AT RYAN'S ON *** *** MONDAY, JULY 4, 2005. IT WILL BE HELD** *** AT THE JUNE 25 FIELD DAY EVENT*** The June meeting of the ERARC was opened at 703pm by Gary Kadar N8GK, ERARC Vice President. There were 17 members and guests in attendance. Gary welcomed all. Hooger Fisher W4OF, Secretary, read the May minutes, there were no corrections or additions. He asked Gary about the May 14th VE test session and 'one lady from Whitesville took and passed her 5WPM code test, one fellow upgraded to General and one person took and did not pass the Technician test'. Bob Frazier WB8NRK said that the VE team did purchase a CD player for the code testing for $26.37 and did use it during the test session. When asked about the status of the 444.45 repeater, Jay Belt K8CTI reported that he had repaired the radio and that it was still on his workbench and that he and John Riddle N8RIG are in the process of linking it with the 53.37 N8RIG 6M repeater. He said that the link will be fulltime when work is completed. Gary: FIELD DAY will be held on top of East River Mountain, across from the overlook area, June 25th and 26th at the site of the very large antenna. Jay Belt said that he needed to acquire a combination lock for the gate to be used at evening and nighttime hours in order "to keep the heathens out". Russel Taylor KC8GBE said that he had one we could use. John Riddle said that we can use Benny Mills' N8XXA tower trailer for the contest. The rotator will come from John and Hooger Fisher; the unit was donated to the club by Jim O'Hara N8JO. John has a 440 beam and Jerry Connelly KC8TES has a 6M beam that we can use. Hooger has the paperwork for the contest and Gary inquired and found that we'll have at least 3 radios to use then. The question of a full time control operator came up and Hooger said that he'd be at the site all night long. We will get our heads together at breakfast in Green Valley that morning and figure out what equipment to get from Bob Frazier's garage. The big generator is at John Riddle's and the tents, feed lines, antennas, etc. are at Bob's. Betty Viers KG4CTL asked about food for Field Day and after some discussion, we decided to bring our own. Jerry Connelly KC8TES, Mercer ARES EC, wanted to know if the club needed to give permission for Virginia ARES to use the '49 repeater for a Virginia Simulated Emergency Test (SET) later this month. Discussion. Officially, the club does not mind for any such type of use. Jerry said that the SET will involve 3 Virginia districts and the plan is to ask Mercer Co. WV ARES for assistance during the test. Visiting amateur, Greg Dominguez N3MPR was introduced and he gave a bit of information about himself. Everyone introduced themselves to him. Treasurer's report by Bob Frazier WB8NRK given. ARES net control for June: 7th Jerry Connelly, 14th Hooger Fisher, 21st Lonnie Underwood KI4EED, 28TH Lonnie Underwood. David Cox KG4MCC won the 50/50 drawing. The meeting was adjourned at 740pm. Respectfully submitted, George "Hooger" Fisher 111, W4OF, Secretary.
