Minutes of the East River Amateur Radio Club November 05, 2001 meeting ACME Fresh Markets, Community Room, Bluefield,VA (www.inetone.net/erarc) please note that these minutes are posted here also. The November meeting of the ERARC was opened at 0700pm by President George Dietrich kf4ygl. There were 22 members and guests in attendance. George asked Don Anderson wd8oor for a repeater report. Don said, “they’re all working.” He went on to say that the ‘new’ ’49 had been sent back to the factory for the fourth time and hopefully it would be sent back this way by Friday or the following Monday. The new 440 (442.45) is working well and that Jay Belt k8cti would be passing out the new instructions for the remote base on it, and when the ‘new’ ’49 repeater was functional, for it also. Also, Don mentioned that he’s had a really tough time getting the insurance company to actually send payment for the ‘old’ ’49, which was struck by lightening. It seems that we will receive part of the settlement and the company supplying the ‘new’ ’49 will receive the other part. The repeater company (CAT) will send us their ‘part’ when they receive it since we’re paying for the repeater, once it’s OK. Treasurer Bob Frazier wb8nrk, gave the treasurers report. He is still awaiting reimbursement for the ‘old’ ’49 repeater from the insurance company. The minutes of the October meeting were read by Hooger w4of. George brought up several items including the Bluefield Area Foundation’s asking for applications for funding for projects and the ERARC Christmas Dinner/Meeting. The 2001 Christmas Dinner will be on December 3, 2001 at 6pm at ACME Fresh Market’s Community Room. The ‘steam tables’ will be open and everyone can choose their meal, buffet style. George Scott N4QQM, manager for ACME, was present at this meeting and said that he’d have turkey, ham, vegetables, etc. (traditional Christmas dinner items) on the buffet. The meeting will follow the dinner. Patty Dietrich kg4aym and Betty Viers kg4ctl asked about how many tables would be in the room for the dinner so that they could make floral arrangements for the tables and use them as door prizes. They also wanted to know if there was anyway that we could guess as to how many children would be present. We didn’t know. They also asked that anyone could get items for door prizes to do so and let Patty and/or Betty know. GEORGE SCOTT, manager of AMCE, said that the Christmas dinner would be $3.99 per person and will include unlimited trips to the soda pop, tea and coffee dispensers. ’49 and 440 repeaters: Jay Belt k8cti told us that the 442.45 repeater is on the mountain and on the air. The remote base is working well into 2M, 440 and 220. He passed out the instruction sheets for the remote base(s) for the 440 and ‘new’ ’49, when it is functional. (He said that he still needs to purchase two Kenwood 440 mobile radios (models TM 441 or TM 431) and one 220 Kenwood mobile radio (model TM 231). If anyone knows of such radios for sale, please contact Jay Belt at 304-327-0090 or via email at cti@inetone.net.) Jay also suggested that ‘we’ have the memory locations for the remote bases listed on the ERARC website so that updates, omissions, etc. can be posted in a more timely fashion. Old business: Hooger Fisher w4of gave a report on Jamboree on the Air, held October 20-21 at the Tazewell County Airport. There were three scouts to visit the site. Bluefield Area Foundation grant for their next fiscal year: George asked as to what we could ask the BAF for help in funding for the club. Arlie Hicks n8ah mentioned a weather station for the repeaters. Gary Kadar mentioned getting a HF rig for the club’s use so that we’d be able to use it for emergency use, Field Day, VHF contest, etc. Discussion ensued. John Riddle n8rig made a motion, seconded by Tom Gordon ww8d to ask for an ICOM 706MKIIG, a power supply and tuner. A vote was taken and the motion passed. 50/50 won by John Riddle n8rig. ARES net controls for Nov.: 6th Ed Viers 13th Hooger Fisher w4of 20th George Dietrich 27th Tom Gordon. The meeting was over by 755pm. Respectfully submitted, George E.
