Minutes of the East River Amateur Radio Club September 1, 2003 Ryan’s Steakhouse, Bluefield,VA. http://www.erarc.com The September meeting of the ERARC was opened at 707pm by Hooger Fisher, W4OF, ERARC Sec. There were 7 members in attendance. Hooger welcomed all and read the minutes of the August meeting and one comment arose: No one was asked to check on wire, etc. for the suggested 50’ extension cords for Field Day use. Bob Frazier WB8NRK suggested that we still try for “SO” type #10 gauge wire for flexibility and carrying heavy currents. Arlie Hicks N8AH said that he had purchased some heavy-duty extension cords at Sam’s if we would want to look there also. Hooger asked about the August 15 VE test session and Bob reported that there were 6 VEs but no testees. The September 13-15 VHF contest, usually attended by the ERARC on Round Mt. in Bland County, VA was mentioned. No one commented on attending. Bob Frazier, WB8NRK, treasurer, gave his report.Bob said that he’d be sending out reminders for club dues renewal soon. Please consider sending your dues to Bob at: 505 Eads Mill Rd. Princeton, WV 24740. Dues are still $10 and $1 for each additional family ham member (at the same address). Contact Bob Frazier at wb8nrk@arrl.net. Jay Belt K8CTI said that he would see that the ’49 repeater announces the monthly meetings, this due to the poor attendance tonight. Bob Frazier said that he really needs some help putting up two new guy wires on the ’06 machine in Princeton, hopefully before bad weather. Jay Belt said that he’d climb the tower but only if it was raining or snowing. Jerry Connelly KC8TES asked if the club had considered having Field Day in a more local, closer location. Hooger read the June minutes and mentioned that Dave Cox KG4MCC had, at that time, received permission to hold the event at Bluefield, Va’s Graham Recreational Park and the Boissevain Coal Miner’s Memorial Park. Gary Kadar N8GK had contacted someone in McDowell Co. on #9 mountain for a Field Day location also. Hooger mentioned that at the last meeting, it was suggested that the Tuesday ARES net be moved to 8pm from 7pm so that more people could run the net as well as participate in the net. Hooger had talked to Tom Gordon WW8D, Mercer Co. EC about it and Tom said that he didn’t mind at all if we changed the time to 8pm. We’ll discuss this further at the next meeting. It was also mentioned at that meeting that the club consider having it’s own net on a different night of the week. There being no more business, the meeting was closed at 0735pm Respectfully submitted, George “Hooger” Fisher 111, W4OF, Sec.
